In a home setting, patients should have a designated spot in their refrigerator to store it safely (ideally in a container to avoid contact with food items and with the original box around it)

Under sub-optimal conditions — warm ambient temperatures, frequent puncture without consistent aseptic technique, light exposure — the effective preservation window may shorten to less than 28 days even though the calendar window has not elapsed
